The San Francisco ASL Group :)

The San Francisco ASL Group is for everyone who is interested to chat in ASL. All are welcome: deaf, hard of hearing and hearing!!! All who love to meet other ASLers, to practice ASL and to have some fun!

This will be a signing only environment. You may use written notes, your own body language (as you do in a foreign country) or fingerspelling but no voice should be used. We believe that only in a real signing environment you learn a visual language as ASL appropriately. Please don't be intimidated..we are very nice people and help you out whenever you get stuck with signing!
Welcome!!! :)

"Hi! I am a speech therapist and use very basic ASL to help toddlers who don't (yet) speak transition into using language to communicate. I've taken ASL 1, and loved it, but don't remember much and would love to expand my vocabulary beyond a two-yea"

"My mother is from Japan and hard-of-hearing. I am beginning to learn ASL with my best friend, Elizabeth. We are taking lessons from Steve, a deaf certified ASL instructor found on Craigslist."

  • "Hey Miro, We could not find you. First we were at the skyterasse, then we had table in "M" floor at Medjool. Around 9:30 -9:45 pm we went to Doc's clock Bar right across Medjool because we finished dinner at Medjool and for some people the roof was too cold...We were looking for you but couldn't find you. :( "

  • "Hey Jon, Your bookmobile picture is really great!! Does this bookmobile also stop in my neighbourhood sometimes? (Mission/Dolores). Anyway, it was great that you finally joined my ASL group last night. We had lots fun with you. Good luck for studying for ASL 3 test..I haven't yet started to prepare for it yet. :)"

  • "Hi, Katrin! It's ironic, we have traveled quite often but never to California! It would be terrific to come out and meet you as well as the rest of the meetup friends. We think you are doing an awesome job learning ASL as a 2nd language - sign language, that is. We're new with the meetup and we love it. Wish we did this long ago but all the filming and meetings took us away from the "internet" generation that is blooming now. Hear from you soon and looking forward, Gilda and Avery"

"Hi there! I am an ASL student and I'm also Hard-of-Hearing. I can still hear fairly well, but I need to learn how to sign to continue communicating. Also, I'm a gamer. =D"
